This afternoon student teams from across Europe took to the Rotterdam track at Shell Eco-Marathon Europe, testing the efficiency of their prototype vehicles. Vehicles powered by gasoline, diesel, ethanol, gas to liquid, hydrogen fuel cell, solar and battery electric are all looking to go as far as possible on as little energy as possible. Time lapse of the sun from 02-13-2007 till 03-19-2012 Video from Hinode, a joint Japan-US mission to oberve the Sun with three advanced telescopes. The HINODE (SOLAR-B), which is the successor to the orbiting solar observatory YOHKOH (SOLAR-A), was launched at 6:36 am on September 23, 2006 (JST) by the MV Launch Vehicle No.7 from the Uchinoura Space Center. The satellite had been coordinated and developed by the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan. Each party had the following responsibilities. The satellite systems were developed by JAXA and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. The large solar optical telescope (SOT) was jointly developed by the United States and Japan. JAXA and the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan worked on the telescope optics and the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) developed the focal-plane package (FPP). For the X-ray telescope (XRT), NASA provided grazing-incidence mirror optics, while JAXA provided the CCD camera. Development of the Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) Imaging Spectrometer is being led by the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC) of the United Kingdom with the support of NASA and JAXA. The satellite mission's main scientific aim is to unravel some of the mysteries and mechanisms of the activities taking place in the solar corona. 100-watt Flexible Solar Panel on Vancouver Solar Electric e-Bike Trailer Needs Redesign
Everybody wants to be a Vancouver Gadgeteer, even Richmond City Hall's Chief of Security. There is too much flexing on the solar panel, as the lexan "backbone" glue isn't rigid enough. The revived batteries on this ebike were installed in 2004 and have much lower capacity, higher resistance. The 100 watt flexible panel is producing only an estimated 60 watts net effect to the battery due to losses. MG Chemicals "Super Contact Cleaner" and other contact cleaners were applied to all contact points and terminals, then covered with a sealant. The constant voltage converter is the key to this electric vehicle project. Vancouver Gadgeteers Amateur Inventors & Tinkerers Club (an informal association of hobbyists) created this solar-powered electric vehicle.

fox gets shocked at chicken coop
A fox comes back to our backyard after eating four of our chickens in the "barn" coop the day before. He gets a rude awakening by our solar powered electric fence on our A-frame coop. Even after getting shocked, he doesn't leave, so we send our dog after him.
